Mental Health of Hearing Challenged and Normal Adolescents
Abstract
The study was designed to examine whether there has any significant difference in mental health of hearing challenged and normal adolescents. The sample consisted of purposively selected 50 hearing challenged school going students (aged 11-15) from Welfare centre for Hearing Impaired, Sonipat and 50 normal students studying in different Government schools. Mental health battery standardized & developed by Singh & Gupta [1] was administered on the subject. The obtained data was analyzed in terms of mean, SD and „t‟ test to find out the significant difference in the mental health of hearing challenged and normal adolescents. The results of the study indicate that the hearing challenged adolescents have poor mental health as compared to normal adolescents. The study has its implications for school administrators, policy makers, parents, teachers, community leaders and rehabilitation workers and media personnel‟s.
